Amazon, Fashion, Brooklyn studio opening

Amazon woos fashion industry as studio opens - Times Leader: " . . . Fashion is one of those emerging businesses at Amazon that has Bezos’ attention. While Amazon has sold apparel, shoes and accessories for years, the company has intensified its focus on the category in the past few years. In addition to the apparel site on Amazon.com, the company owns the flash-sale site MyHabit.com, shoe-seller Zappos.com and the fashionista site ShopBop.com. Already, Amazon has 35 million active customers shopping for clothes, making the profitable, multibillion-dollar-a-year business the company’s fastest-growing category, said Amazon Fashion president Cathy Beaudoin. And Amazon’s ambitions for the apparel business are as vast as the inside of the new photo studio. “We want to be a great department store, like Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and Saks,” Beaudoin said. “But what we have that they don’t have is unlimited shelf space.”. . . Miami Design District Lures Luxury Stores

Many high-end brands have left behind Bal Harbour Shops, for years a magnet to the wealthy, for more breathing room in Miami’s Design District.--

Upstart in Miami Lures Luxury Stores From a Chic Citadel - NYTimes.com: " . . . a string of big-name tenants — Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Cartier and others — has been abandoning Bal Harbour’s rarefied confines for a scruffy city neighborhood 10 miles away. More than a dozen other Bal Harbour tenants, including Valentino, Giorgio Armani, Fendi and Harry Winston, have signed leases in the area and are expected to follow. Their destination is the Miami Design District . . . . While New York and Los Angeles have long been magnets for high-end shoppers, Miami’s popularity as an attraction for moneyed foreigners, particularly from Latin America and Russia, has created an increasingly vibrant luxury market. More than 70 percent of Bal Harbour’s sales these days are to foreign customers. Brazilians, in particular, have become so important that many of the stores in Bal Harbour employ Portuguese speakers. . . ." (read more at link above)
