Fashion Week, Ralph Lauren, Spring 2014 (video)

Fashion Week Ralph Lauren Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York Spring 2014 57133
Fashion Week Ralph Lauren Mercedes Benz Fashion Week New York Spring 2014 - As a label used to showcasing its latest collection on the last day of fashion week, Ralph Lauren surprises with a summer wardrobe dominated mostly by black and white. The grand final concludes with a high point filled with colours that make the eye explode, worked closely to produce long dresses that lightly float around the body in nuances of Klein blue, mandarin orange, green apple, canary yellow and poppy red...The silhouette of the day is super short, with an abundance of mini-skirts, outrageous jackets and shirts accessorized with flowery ties. This boyish look of high-waisted trousers, a buttoned-up shirt and a high neck pays homage to the designer's wife...who, as usual, he remembers to kiss as he slips onto the runway at the end.

Kenneth Cole, Embracing Change

Kenneth Cole Embraces Change, Quietly - NYTimes.com: "Mr. Cole is obsessed with social network platforms (“The way people consume fashion is so profoundly different,” he said earlier). There is a physical presentation, which will be viewed by the fashion industry, and another for the virtual audience. Capsule collections are generally curated for each platform: Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and now Vine. One of the last looks was a black sheer sweater with a wide neckline that revealed the model’s shoulders and tank top strap evoking “Flashdance.” The back dipped down, showing the model’s back." Fashion Models, Quirk Is In

Models who don’t fit the image of pristine perfection are suddenly in demand --

For Fashion Models, Quirk Is In - NYTimes.com: "The New Quirk might be an adjustment of sorts to an Instagram world, where amateur images of beauty fly fast, and editors and advertisers are looking for something to make the viewer linger longer than a nanosecond. “When you first meet a girl, something like a gap tooth catches your attention,” said Kwok Kan Chan, 45, director of the American operations at The Society Model Management, based in the Flatiron district and part of Elite World/Elite Group. “You might look at her and think ‘She’s not a conventional beauty.’ ”"

Total Pleasure, Vintage Online Boutique

Total Pleasure, a new secondhand e-commerce destination that went live last month, caters to a very niche market with vintage finds like velvet bustiers and pants covered in flames or Mountain Dew logos.

Site to Be Seen | A New Vintage Online Boutique Caters to the Downtown Set - NYTimes.com: The e-shop could be seen as a response to the craftiness of Etsy or the fast-fashion aesthetic of Nasty Gal. Erickson, who works for the artists Urs Fischer and Spencer Sweeney, and Kim, a producer at Vice, curate their inventory based on what they would wear in Williamsburg or downtown Manhattan. After years of thrift shopping together, the duo started taking buying trips around Long Island and the Northeast, and eventually to Florida and California. They see Total Pleasure less like a shop than an opportunity to build a community around a store, not unlike Opening Ceremony...

Big Data, Fashion Forecasting

Data crunching starts to make inroads into the traditional method of design forecasting: trend analysis with a big dollop of intuition. --

How to Tell the Fashion Future? - NYTimes.com: "Not surprisingly, some traditional forecasters are suspicious of a data-driven approach. “Right now data is the buzzword,” said Isham Sardouk, chief creative officer at Stylesight in New York and once a design director at Victoria’s Secret. “But for me, data is not everything. It’s just a portion of the information that’s out there. I think that intuition is underrated, and when people think of a trend forecaster they imagine a crazy guy in a room experiencing visions of salmon pink. But it’s a group decision. I have a team of 200 industry experts feeding information from all around the world.”" (read more at link above)
